Something old, something blue, something borrowed....but nothing new
Come as you are, wear what you'd like, be yourself....we want this event to be a party for our loved ones as much as for ourselves. But since it is our day, we do have one request: We'd like our wedding to be new-commodity free, with the exception of homemade/handmade goods. That extends to you, our guests, as well.
What do we mean, new-commodity free?
We mean don't buy anything newly-produced for any part of our wedding. This includes, on your end:
-your outfit
-gifts, if you're into that
We'll be doing the same thing, including:
-our clothing
-decorations
-memorabilia
-the rings (see our separate post about the stories behind our rings)
Why? What's wrong with new stuff?
We like our gadgets, kitchenware, and musical instruments just as much as the next couple. But the amount of stuff produced, bought, and thrown into landfills these days is pretty overwhelming. And it's super easy to find nearly everything we need or want in a pre-owned or homemade form. So, since it's our day and our way, we're opting out of the buy-new-stuff world for our wedding! If you're still confused, check out this great video: The Story of Stuff.
But wait, I was super excited to shop for a new dress and/or a new amazing french press for you as a wedding gift....now what?
Shop away! Just think of this as a new shopping adventure--instead of going to Macy's or Bed Bath and Beyond, try one of these places:
Consigment shops
Ebay
Red Light
Buffalo Exchange
Etsy (amazing handmade/homemade stuff, including clothes and jewelry and gifts)
Goodwill
Value Village
other thrift stores
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT GIFTS: Check out our Gifts page for more info, including our online registry.
